CRAZY WEDNESDAY: MERMAID-Y IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES

A Thai designer has come up with a new use for discarded fish skins, but there’s something about it that I’m really not sure of. The tilapia fish is often eaten by street vendors, but the skin is usually just thrown away. Now Anchali Chatrakul Na Ayudhayaby has had the idea of making bikinis out of the discarded, slimy, scaly bits, and they’re expected to sell for around 75 US dollars each.

I suppose that the natural qualities make them ideal as swimwear, being about as suited to the water as you can get. At 15 skins per bikini, it’s a veritable shoal in each garment. Dubbed the “Fishkini”, nobody says whether it smells or not.

The girl in the Reuters video looks fairly pleased with it, but I guess, like all fashion, it’s not the garment itself that matters, but how you fillet!!!
